Good Practice Mute

Pros: It works like any other rubber practice mute; mutes well and is possible to get different tones and dynamics.

Cons: Doesn't mute very well when playing chords.

Good inexpensive option for muting your violin

Pros: As said by other reviewers, this allows me to practise, without annoying others. Solid rubber means no damage to instrument, however not quite as quiet as other heavier options. All in all a great buy, especially for just over £3! Fast delivery too.

Cons: No cons worth mentioning

Very effective and simple to use

Pros: I am very pleased with this product. It mutes effectively while retaining enough volume for pratcice. With my steel strings it produces a nice mellow tone.

Cons: None that I can think of. First time I have used a mute so it took me 30 seconds to work out how to fit it :-)

A small gesture towards sanity

Pros: A minimal purchase but its really great for practising those scales,at times, without driving others mad! And, for when you just have to play things over and over when no-one else wants to leave the house and you in peace.

Cons: hmmm?

Easy, secure, quiet-ish.

Pros: Easy to fix onto the bridge & very secure once in place. Easy to see over, unlike a metal mute. Cheap.

Cons: Not as quiet as a metal mute - gives a deep tone, lower strings particularly vibrate more noticeably.

Other: A good buy if you want to practice quietly. Instrument still loud enough to wake someone sleeping in the next room though. If you want to practice really quietly, get a large metal mute.

This mute works!

Pros: It's small, easily transportable and easy to use. Makes the sound much quieter - ideal for practice in a flat.

Cons: There was nothing I didn't like!

Good value practice mute

Pros: It really does make it a lot quieter. I leave it on a cheap practice fiddle and play it during the lunch hour at work - ideal. And the case shuts with it on so I don't have to remember to remove it every day to avoid breaking the bridge!

Cons: The attenuation is not even across the strings. I get a wolf tone low on the D string which makes it a lot louder than the others. If this bothers you a more expensive metal mute might solve your problem.

Other: Good practice mute for the money but you can't assess your tone with it on. Great for keeping your chops in shape though.

Useful aid to practise

Pros: The sound is greatly muted but the tone is still there, and you can hear what you are playing, so it is a useful aid to practise.

Cons: Although the sound is greatly muted, I could have done with it being even quieter, as the reason I needed it was because of my cat. The mute has lessened her reaction, but not enough.
