Violin 5-String Set, 4/4, Medium Tension (plain steel E) | £82.98 |
* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
Multi stranded steel core strings. Medium tension.
Helicore violin strings are crafted with a multi-stranded steel core, resulting in optimal playability while producing a clear, warm tone. The smaller string diameter provides quick bow response. Premium quality materials combined with skilled workmanship produces strings known for excellent pitch stability and longevity.
Very popular string, particularly suited to electric instruments and those who prefer the bright, quick tone of metal strings.

Pros: I was pleasantly surprised by these steel strings. They had a lovely warm tone but were simultaneously clear and focused, and they felt very smooth under the fingers. They were easy to set up and lasted a long time, and rarely went out of tune. Very reasonably priced for what they are. Brilliant for pizzicato, too, with a nice ringing sound.
Cons: Due to the small diameter and, they were slightly more brittle-sounding and, being steel, were also more one-dimensional in comparison to other strings. The D was initially a little more nasal than the other strings in the set, but this gradually subsided.

Pros: Got these for my son (grade 6 violin) as they were recommended by his teacher and a lot cheaper than we had been paying. Although he was suspicious because they didn't come in the usual 'card' packaging (he's 11 years old) they were absolutely fine and exactly what he's been using. Thanks a lot.
Cons: I'm all for less packaging but my son was suspicious!
Other: Will use stringzone again and my son has told his cousins to use thestringzone too.

Pros: Nice toned, long lasting and keep pitch well. Work well with my 'session' fiddle to give clear but not overly hard tone over whole range even after a long period of use. Good value.
Cons: The strings don't suit every instrument - one of my fiddles has a rich bass end but less top, and these strings don't work with it.

Pros: fabulous strings for the folk fiddler - lots of bite - far less mellow than dominants but still have a richness. I use a Skyeinbow pickup and they do sound great.
Cons: A strings tend to lose their coating first. I tend top replace my strings every 3 months to keep them fresh, but I do play most days,

Pros: Great strings for electric fiddles producing a smooth tone that the electronics can do exciting things with. We'll balanced and fast reaction to the bow.
Cons: I don't like them on acoustic instruments.
