Worth every penny for the instant improvement

Pros: I honestly believe that I have found a bow that will serve me for the rest of my playing days - and in that context, its a great investment in how you learn to play the violin. Looks beautiful, feels beautiful. Incredible balance; just "feels right" in hand. Instant grip on the string and easy to vary pressure and tone. Made a huge difference to my playing in no time - notes were clearer, cleaner, more even and more balanced, my bow control improved dramatically (you can "feel" the string and the grip under the bow hair as you play each note). If, like me, you bought a "violin outfit" as a beginner, then its an expensive step upwards. But to return to the bow supplied in even a relatively expensive beginner's outfit feels like playing the violin with a stick the dog found in the park! If you think the bow in your beginner's outfit might be holding you back, then it almost certainly is! Stop thinking about it and use the trial service to try a selection of upgrades and pick the one that suits you. Check for tone, balance across the strings and the ability to vary the note, listen for the sympathetic vibrations, its a revelation! You wil KNOW which bow feels right to you.

Cons: Cost almost as much as my beginner's outfit. But its a worth every penny for the instant improvement.

Other: The Trial Service from String Zone is fabulous, especially during Covid Times (lockdown). I selected this Dorfler ahead of a more expensive pernambuco and a couple of carbon fibre bows, after trialling for a few days. I would also recommend calling String Zone to discuss the selections in your Trial, great advice and worked extremely well for me. Every time I remove my bow from the case, it feels like a special purchase.
