In situ mute designed by Fred Spector of the Chicago Symphony. Made of hard rubber the mute stays in place without rattling.
This product is better suited for muted passages as directed in a piece rather than volume reduction in a practise space.
Locates between the 2 middle strings and slides forward to use.

Pros: The mute can be left on the violin when not in use (slide it away from the bridge). Can vary the amount of muting by pushing closer to the bridge. The mute does not obstruct the bridge so you can practice fff bowing close to the bridge without the bow touching the mute.
Cons: Sliding the mute too far away from the bridge (when mute is not in use) can occasionally cause some of the colored winding of the string to fray a little, (this does not damage the string itself though).
