In situ mute designed by Fred Spector of the Chicago Symphony. Made of hard rubber the mute stays in place without rattling.
This product is better suited for muted passages as directed in a piece rather than volume reduction in a practise space.
Locates between the 2 middle strings and slides forward to use.

A very neat and tidy answer to a violin mute
Pros: Once in place it sits perfectly and slides in and out of postion allowing you to make changes quickly between pieces.
Cons: A little fiddly to put on - especially if you get it on the wrong way around at first

Pros: - Easy to use - Stable - Doesn't rattle - Doesn't move once on - Easy to apply/remove quickly
Cons: - Made little difference when put between D and A (I have to put it between G and D string) - Not as effective as traditional black mutes - Loses it's tightness after time (little bit of buzzing can occur if not pushed all the way back)
Other: Great mute otherwise and really convenient for orchestral/opera use. I sometimes remove it if I'm playing solo repertoire as it can rattle on certain notes, but not nearly as much as traditional mutes.

Pros: very good fit and easy to use.
Cons: It really doesn't mute very well. There is only a very slight reduction in noise and tone which rather defeats the object. Probably designed for orchestral use?

Pros: Lightweight and easy to fit. Stays where you position it and gives good, adjustable tonal control.
Cons: Visually you are likely to wonder why it cost what it did, but it's not the 'eyes' that have it on this occasion!
Other: If you want a practice mute, this is not for you. If you want a means to effect subtle tonal alteration without killing the voice of your instrument, it's actually quite good. It even tamed a Fishman pickup for me, which after 15 years of trying is quite something!

Pros: It's small and easy to put on...
Cons: It doesn't really mute the sound...
Other: It's possible this mute does exactly what it's supposed to, but to my untrained ears, it does very litte.
