* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
Set of four strings in medium tension, ball or loop end E. The modern gut cored string. Old sound, modern stability.
These incredible strings are the latest strings from Pirastro designed to combine the best qualities of synthetic cored strings with the traditional gut sound. True gut sound with plenty of volume plus excellent tonal stability. Recommended rosin: Oliv/Evah Pirazzi.
The gut core of Passione strings is manufactured, wound and polished in the traditional way, by hand. The core sound is full, round and warm, with a complex overtone spectrum combining brilliance and clarity and a great power of projection.
Passione strings possess a fascinating diversity of sounds, which allows musicians to alter their tone as desired. Big and powerful sound with very easy response on all levels of the dynamic range Passione strings have a significantly reduced playing in time compared to other traditional gut strings.
Pirastro gut string tensions are measured in units of PM (Pirastro Measurement) and refer to the diameter of the string. 1PM = 0.05mm, so gauge 14PM = 0.7mm diameter. The tension of the string varies by 3% for each gauge.
Gut cored Pirastro string. Please note that these strings are very delicate and have a shorter and unpredictable life span compared to other strings. We do not recommend their use by beginners or that they be fitted to instruments not set up by trained and experienced craftsmen.

Passione Violin Strings
Pros: They have an immediate, vibrant and clear powerful sound.
Cons: Just take a little playing to keep in tune.
Other: As a professional I find these strings powerful and reliable and the fact that they take a little while to stabilise is a minor concern with regards to weighing up both pos and cons.

Pros: From the moment I put these on my violin, the instrument came alive. I was amazed at the depth of colour from them and their responsiveness. It suddenly became easier to get the tone and even the articulation I had been aiming for, as the bow seems to be able to grip these strings better than my previous set. They are also louder but not harsh - quite a mellow tone, full and rich. I am very pleased with this set indeed. By far the best strings I have bought so far.
Cons: Nothing. Love them!
Other: Takes a couple of weeks for tuning to settle down

Pros: I did like the sound of those strings in the first place...
Cons: but frankly they don't respond well to the pressure of my bow producing a lot of "cracks" and I could never have a clear attack, there would always be a squeaky sounds around the corner so I gave up using them after a month… I will admit that I like using a strong pressure with my bow when playing so depending on your level you might not have the same issue...

Pros: Sweet tone, and very good for double stops.
Cons: Lifespan appears to quite short - although the strings never break, they seem to lose their richness fairly quickly. And - they are expensive!
Other: I would rather have the Pirastro Evah Pirazzis.

Pros: None
Cons: I couldn't get on with these strings at all. I have a very old violin with a rich sound and previously used the Avah Pirazzi strings which have always been reliable and produced a good sound. I was however tempted to try the Pirastro Passione strings but they did not suit my old violin at all. They continually went out of tune and the sound seemed flat in comparison to the evah pirazzi strings. I battled on with them for about 3 weeks and finally decided to put my old strings back on. Very disappointed especially as these strings are quite expensive.
