* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
Set of four strings in medium tension, ball or loop end E. The modern gut cored string. Old sound, modern stability.
These incredible strings are the latest strings from Pirastro designed to combine the best qualities of synthetic cored strings with the traditional gut sound. True gut sound with plenty of volume plus excellent tonal stability. Recommended rosin: Oliv/Evah Pirazzi.
The gut core of Passione strings is manufactured, wound and polished in the traditional way, by hand. The core sound is full, round and warm, with a complex overtone spectrum combining brilliance and clarity and a great power of projection.
Passione strings possess a fascinating diversity of sounds, which allows musicians to alter their tone as desired. Big and powerful sound with very easy response on all levels of the dynamic range Passione strings have a significantly reduced playing in time compared to other traditional gut strings.
Pirastro gut string tensions are measured in units of PM (Pirastro Measurement) and refer to the diameter of the string. 1PM = 0.05mm, so gauge 14PM = 0.7mm diameter. The tension of the string varies by 3% for each gauge.
Gut cored Pirastro string. Please note that these strings are very delicate and have a shorter and unpredictable life span compared to other strings. We do not recommend their use by beginners or that they be fitted to instruments not set up by trained and experienced craftsmen.

Horses for courses - on balance, not for me.
Pros: Nice sound, but all new strings 'ring' and resonate with each other for a while.
Cons: E whistles - but they all do for me except for special non-whistling ones (they really work!). Taking a long time to settle tuning-wise. Ball end bindings are too thick to comfortably fit my tailpiece adjusters - took some forcing in.
Other: It's a long time since I moved from proper gut covered strings to synthetic cores, so thought I would give these 'hybrids' a try.

Gorgeous sound, fat bindings - worth every penny
Pros: Gorgeous sound, love them. I had initial difficulties because the binding was too thick to fit through the hole in the frog but string zone kindly sent me replacements which fitted perfectly. Sound is simply lovely. I find it keeps pitch fine.

Good bright sound on my instrument
Pros: Strong bright sound on my violin. More stable than Pirastro Olives but not quite as stable as synthetic core (as they claim)
Cons: Still quite temerature sensitive. I find it's better if I equilibrate the violin to room temperature for a while before tuning otherwise I end up re-tuning several times when I start to play.

The best of both worlds..
Pros: I love these strings. A fantastic ballance warmth of the gut with the stability of the bound metal string. This is the frist time I have replaced with this set and they seem slightly sharper. So I am wondering if the warmth increases as the stroing plays in. Time will tell.

Strongly recommended.
Pros: Expensive but excellent product, delivered very efficiently by String Zone. This is my third set of this brand of violin strings - they have significantly improved the quality and depth of tone produced by my violin. It usually has taken me a couple of weeks to ‘play them in’. Would certainly buy these again.

Lovely sounding strings
Pros: Great product, love the sound of these strings which complement my violin so well. They settle quickly, and have a relatively short play in time.
Cons: Being gut these strings are temperature and humidity sensitive and need retuning more often than synthetic. I have found that they perform better kept in a case with a stretto humidifier, when not being played. A bonus is that the temptation to leave ones violin out is reduced meaning the violin is safe at all times! Have also found that G string can be very short lived, breaking in the pegbox within a couple of months.
Other: For the first time of ordering I was unhappy with the delivery time. Despatch was slow and took a few days meaning delivery was not within 5 days. Disappointing as these are not and inexpensive item, they are small and cheap to post, but the fast delivery is too costly. My previous experience with Stringzone has been excellent, but perhaps I shall purchase locally next time.

Nice bright sound but struggle to stay in tune.
Pros: Nice bright sound - my fiddle is naturally very mellow sounding and these strings have given the sound a nice sharp lift.
Cons: Having a great deal of difficulty keeping them in tune. I normally expect a few weeks to settle down but these seem to be taking longer than normal.

Lovely warm sound, good for classical music
Pros: Lovely, lovely warm sound. Great for playing classical music at home, in chamber ensembles or recording
Cons: Maybe doesn't project as well as some other kinds of strings so wouldn't be much good for say playing at a ceilidh. Also tuning less stable than some other materials.
