FULL SIZE - MEDIUM TENSION - NATURAL GUT CORE
The gut string for the 21st century. Synthetic core stability combined with traditional gut warmth and beauty.
Recommended for violas with a playing scale of 35-38cm which covers most violas of back length 15-16.5 inches

Pros: Responsive, full sound, well balanced across the set. Quality and complexity of sound seems to be improving as they settle in. Aluminium on Gut A is a good match for the rest of the set.
Cons: Strings take a while to settle in, particularly the G and C. As with all gut strings, tuning is not as stable as with the synthetics.
Other: I also have a set of Pirastro Passione (Solo) on my violin. These have been on for longer, and I have found that the strings have remained in very good condition for many months, and the stability improves considerably with age.

Pros: I learned to play violin as a child with gut strings for the 3 lower ones and both the feel and the warmth of the sound bring back positive memories. I was inspired to buy a set by interviewing Steven Isserlis who advocated gut strings so passionately that I felt compelled to go home and order some.
Cons: They are taking a few weeks to bed in, but I'm assured by a professional violist friend who has the same strings that his took 3 to 4 weeks to do so, but they are now his preferred choice.
Other: As ever I was delighted with the prompt service from Stringzone.

Not sure if the lovely sound is worth the price
Pros: I loved the warm sound! Also, the shift to gut strings caused me to improve my bow-arm technique in several ways.
Cons: I’m new to gut strings, and I didn’t love the long adjustment period. Also, the C string unwound two weeks in.

Great sound, a little temperamental
Pros: Lovely, lovely sound and warm response. Great for playing at home, in acoustic ensembles and recording.
Cons: They don't like cold weather, and tend to snap! (but that's the nature of gut strings).
Other: I wouldn't recommend them for regular gigging as the tuning is a bit unstable, but they're much better than the covered gut strings of twenty or thirty years ago.
