* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
Professional quality gut core strings. Medium tension only. Various metals wound on natural gut. Steel E.
Set of four strings in medium tension, ball or loop end E. The modern gut cored string. Old sound, modern stability.
These incredible strings are the latest strings from Pirastro designed to combine the best qualities of synthetic cored strings with the traditional gut sound. True gut sound with plenty of volume plus excellent tonal stability. Recommended rosin: Oliv/Evah Pirazzi.
The gut core of Passione strings is manufactured, wound and polished in the traditional way, by hand. The core sound is full, round and warm, with a complex overtone spectrum combining brilliance and clarity and a great power of projection.
Passione strings possess a fascinating diversity of sounds, which allows musicians to alter their tone as desired. Big and powerful sound with very easy response on all levels of the dynamic range Passione strings have a significantly reduced playing in time compared to other traditional gut strings.
Passione Solo strings are designed to produce extra brilliance and power for the soloist. They have a slightly higher tension than medium tension Passione strings.
Gut cored Pirastro string. Please note that these strings are very delicate and have a shorter and unpredictable life span compared to other strings. We do not recommend their use by beginners or that they be fitted to instruments not set up by trained and experienced craftsmen.

Pros: I find Passione Solo the most beautiful string on the market today. I'm from a generation who always played on gut strings and in any case I always believe it wrong to stress an 200 year old violin with high tension strings for which it was never ever designed. Passione Solo are warm, deep, powerful when needed and very, very responsive through a whole range of expression. They are simply gorgeous to play on, beautifully matched througout the entire range and worth every penny. Open strings resonate well in sympathy with stopped notes offering a wonderful depth to vibrato.
Cons: There is little I would ever dislike. You have to realise that gut strings will never be the sort you'd only tune once a year!! I marvel at players who expect their fiddle can be played straight from the case. You do need to keep an ear on tuning...but once the instrument has stabilised to temperature and humidity, you can rely on these strings. Quite obviously it's often unacceptable to retune between movements in a concert. These are the most stable gut strings I've found.
Other: I simply love them and find the 'medium' sets currently available perfect throughout the range.

Pros: I felt the entire set worked really well together. I usually use a different E string but not with this set. The sound was rich, very even and brilliant for pizzicato. I used them for a masters recital programme which included "Tzigane" by Ravel and the strings were super. I will use them again.
Cons: The only con was temporary. It took roughly ten days before they really reached their potential. The sound was initially very scratchy, they were going out of tune a lot, there were many harmonics on certain notes, and I had to work much harder with my left hand than on other strings. I was tempted to change the strings to another brand after a week but I am so glad I didn't. After slightly less than two weeks the strings were wonderful and worth the money.

Pros: Beautiful ringing tone with such brilliant volume. I use them in the jazz/folk oriented pop group Nou Enle and they give me so many tonal options in comparison to other strings in the price range.
Cons: They don't like being left at full tension in heat, although I should have realised this, being that they have a gut core, before I left my violin in a warm room when I went on summer holiday. I lost an A string in this way. Oh well, time for a new set then!

Pros: beautiful tone production and projection react quickly under the bow light perfect tension for my fingers gives my violin a nutty brown sound like glass prompt delivery as always
Cons: pricey but worth it......any other criticism would be to be petty; like "the packaging was too packegey", or "the postman wasn't smiling enough when he delivered it."
