Pirastro Eudoxa is probably the world's best known string and has been a staple of many players over the last 60 years. It is a traditional covered gut string.
Nowadays these strings appeal mainly to players who value the unique tonal properties and playing feel of a traditional gut cored string and are prepared to accept the need for more regular tuning and their sensitivity to changes in climatic conditions.
The sheep gut core of Eudoxa strings is manufactured, wound and polished in the traditional way, by hand. Well balanced warm tone with a great diversity of sound. Low string tension and a comfortable left hand feeling ideal for orchestra, chamber music and studio takes.

Pros: This is a low tension, light gauge A string and is a properly expressive string that allows a cello to sound as it evolved to sound. There is great freedom in the sound (the cello rings beautifully) and good variation of tone and colour. There are often reservation about gut strings' ability to hold pitch, but this one does it very well. This string holds its own in orchestral playing. I'm impressed enough to consider returning to a full gut set of strings and living with the occasional tweak in tuning.
Cons: Only a slight reservation about this string - though this might be fixed by using a stronger gauge - there isn't quite enough volume for solo work when set against an orchestra. But then not so many of us need this too often!
Other: The Eudoxas have quite a bright sound, which would lift a darker sounding cello very well. In singing terms, they would be the equivalent of the tenor voice as against a bass/baritone.

Pros: I very much like the sound produced by Eudoxa strings for chamber music playing but have yet to use the string I purchased from the String Zone - it is my reserve string.
Cons: the price !
Other: Thank you, String Zone, for your prompt service.

Pros: Lovely gut sound, suitable volume if you have a good bow technique. Stable tuning for the most part. Easy under the fingers.
Cons: None! Would recommend the gut A with any set. Has a grainy sound while it plays in but smoothes out pretty quickly.

A great sound
Pros: The wound gut A from Pirastro string makes a huge sound, even on a cello with a thin resonance on A string normally. The tone is broad.
Cons: It is expensive. Proper gut string so pitch alters with speed of the bow.
Other: String zone are quick and efficient

Good but not perfect
Pros: It makes a good sound, feels good under the fingers and matches the tone of the other Pirastro Eudoxa Strings well.
Cons: It does not stay in tune anything like as well as the lower strings. The wire wrapping on an earlier string went after a couple of weeks but StringZone very kindly replaced that string free of charge.

Pros: Sweet, full tone.
Cons: Took a while before it would stay in tune, but that may be my pegs.
Other: Yours inserted instructions, particularly warning against fitting it to tuners, were very helpful.
