The miniature vibration sensor is cast directly into a Superieur Despiau “Two Tree” maple bridge for maximum sensitivity and signal transfer. As an integral part of the bridge, it effortlessly captures the instrument’s inherent dynamics. Furthermore, its selective admittance pattern is aligned so that the signal is generated as the bridge moves in a left-right motion (in response to the string vibrations). The pickup also rejects any impulse directed to the plane of the bridge- minimizing annoying finger squeaks, body noise and feedback. Its not essential but an external preamp is recommended.

Pros: Replicates the natural tone of the instrument very well. The volume balance of all four strings is spot on.
Cons: Would have preferred it, if the jack mount had been wired up from the factory.
Professional
Not cheap but best non-microphone pickup I've used
Pros: Much more accurate to the acoustic sound of my violin than the pickup I had before (which was itself a serious professional piece of kit!), requiring only very fine tweaking of EQ from the desk for optimum tone, and can be used even in front of the main PA speakers without feedback.
Cons: Shaping and fitting the new bridge is a pro luthier job so that needs to be factored into how much it really costs. Like any piezo pickup, doesn't really capture the resonance of the body so it will sound 'dead' without some reverb added at the desk.
