Formerly Lenzner Goldbrokat E.
World famous and extremely effective E string, unique tone, wide choice of gauge.

Sounds nice, but whistles for me
Pros: Comes in 4 thicknesses 0.25-0.28mm. I calculated that each increment should increase the tension by about 8%. I got one of each to compare, but have only tried the thinnest so far. Sounded nice on my recently-acquired French violin, which is quite bright-toned in the mid-upper register, but not that different from the one it came with (Larsen I think).
Cons: ALL plain steel E strings whistle for me on the open string, and this was the same, so I have gone back to my trusty D'Addario wound steel non-whistler.

Great string
Pros: Super string. Works well with my Passione Solo A, Oliv-Stiff D and G. Even though it doesn't blend in perfectly with the A, the extra power up top is great. It doesn't whistle much.
Cons: Doesn't appear to be as temperature stable as other E strings I've used.

Very cheap and amazing value
Pros: Ridiculously cheap. Excellent sound.
Cons: On my violin this E string sounded a bit weak. I just replaced with a Kaplan Golden Spiral heavy gauge, which seems to have evened things out. NB - this is just my violin, I still recommend this string as well worth a try.

Everyone should try these E strings...
Pros: Excellent string which far, far belies it's price. Sweet sound with no harshness yet with good projection. Almost no noticeable bedding in period..sounds great straight away and available in a variety of tensions. Also used the more expensive version and both are still excellent value. Down to taste I guess.

A very good E string. Especially it is so cheap!
Pros: It settles on my violin instantly. The sounds is sweet and quite mellow. However, it delivers good amount of power. It is slightly quieter than my Larsen Tzigane G,D and A. I have previously tried Virtuoso E, Il Cannons E and Pirastro Wondertone E. The high register speaks very clearly and very easy to play. The tension is just right for my violin . I have struggled with playing the opening of Symphonie Espanole top E securely. I can now nail the top note everytime. I am very please with it as I can blame the equipment for once.
Cons: It is not a soloist E in my opinion . I don't think it can cut through a full orchestra like the Evah Pirazzi Gold E or Il Cannon E. I think it is a good choice for chamber music.
Other: I can now play the top E with ease and confident. :)

A velvet E string
Pros: Being an (old) adult returner these remind me of the E strings that I had on my first violin which used gut G D and A strings. The tones produced by this E string are all heart (or core) with very subtle (or limited) harmonics which blend in perfectly with gut or the modern equivalent of gut strings. Highly recommended for anyone not wanting a bright E.

Pros: Price and quality of tone.
Cons: The string has to be replaced on a regular basis because the tone is lost within two months of constant playing. Not a problem when they are so cheap.
Other: Good enough for Heifetz.......
