Warmth and power in short scale
3 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: These strings are one of the very few that are made specifically in a short scale. My 15" viola has a playing length of only 33.5cm, so that most viola strings do not suit it very well. I was initially apprehensive of using metal strings, but these are not brash at all. They are warm and full, forceful without being aggressive. Being higher tension than the strings I am used to, they are harder to play, which is forcing me to improve my bow technique!

Cons: They don't seem to speak very well when muted, or in pp. Then again, maybe I need to improve my technique, or try a different type of mute.

Mellow (but not C string). Great customer service.

Pros: Mellow tone, not too strident. Settled very quickly after fitting, and tuning remains stable.

Cons: The C string. Fuzzy, unpleasant tone. I had to replace it with an old string I had in my case. I'd have liked more helpful size guidance, too. The sizes offered were 14"-15" body, 15"-16" , and 16" +. My viola is exactly 16" long, so I had to guess whether to go for medium or long strings.

Other: When the set arrived, the D string was obviously faulty. I sent a photo; return envelope with postage, label and replacement string arrived by return of post, with a friendly and courteous note.

All Metal Beauties

Pros: Lovely strings that produce a strong warm sound, expressive and very responsive even with fast bowing, nothing harsh; even the A is sweet!. This set replaces Obligato strings that I have happily used for the last few years, but the new ones make my viola sound better than ever and make me feel a better player!!

Cons: Nothing really - yes they are expensive but no more so than the Obligatos.

Other: The Pirastro Obligato rosin I had been using did not give a good response and clean well-defined notes, so I've had to change to the Goldflex rosin which works a treat ( I assume this is due to the heavier all metal strings).
