The Kaplan cello strings produce a rich and complex tone. Conceived for the most discerning musicians, they stand up well to extreme bow pressure, and provide a powerful but warm sound.
Kaplan cello strings are scaled to fit a 4/4 size instrument with a playing length of 27 1/2 inches (700mm). Heavy tension strings allow for greater projection and volume potential, while light tension strings allow for easier bow response.
Medium tension strings are optimised to the needs of a majority of players.

Pros: I've been using Kaplan A and D strings since they first came out, and think they deserve to be reviewed (I see there are hardly any here). I find them to be reliable, good-sounding strings, with a warm and responsive tone throughout their range. They also have a very short playing-in time, but last a long time without losing their direct and uncoloured sound quality, which is really all you can ask of a string. I have also recently reviewed the Kaplan G string here, and it matches the warmth and reliability of the top strings.
Cons: Some players might prefer a bit more edge to the sound, but it's a matter of personal taste.
Other: Other strings, such as Pirastro Evah Pirazzi or Versum, might be more exciting or responsive than Kaplan, but conversely need to be more carefully controlled. Kaplan strings sound good straight away, and stay sounding good.
