RAPID – AND GOOD – SERVICE FROM THE STRING ZONE

Pros: I was a new user of The String Zone's mail-order service and was impressed how smoothly, and fairly speedily, it went. I've used Jargar strings for at least 30 years since my then luthier (instrument repairer) recommended that I switch to them from, I think, Pirastro. I don't know quite how Jargar achieve it, but they have a warm tone which I really like, and this is particularly important with a G. And on rare occasions when I play with professionals I get compliments on the quality of my sound!

Cons: Despite care in how I wind (or tension) strings round the peg, I have a feeling that from time to time Jargars don't have the longevity of some other strings. However, this is a trade-off I'm willing to accept in exchange for the warmth of the tone they produce.

Good quality strings at a reasonable price.

Pros: Smooth sound, settles quickly and needs virtually no 'playing in', good for developing cheaper instruments or those which haven't been played for some time. Not affected by temperature or humidity.

Cons: For some instruments Jargar will be too hard, although the soft grade does give a slightly 'stringier' sound. The E string can be shrill - personally I prefer a wound E string.

Other: I have used Jargar violin and viola strings for many years and never been dissatisfied.
