Pros: Very comfortable under the fingers, easily responds to the bow, and can produce an appealing tone with power (when needed) or subtlety (ditto). The strings really do need a week to settle down. Rather less expensive than many strings but certainly not a 'poor relation' to other manufacturers - don't let the fact that they are American put you off.
Cons: On my 16.5-inch viola the tone becomes less and less focussed as one rises up the string into high positions - one really has to work with the bow/fingers to get a 'shape' to the required pitch.
Other: For a violist who, for the moment, is not going to venture up the fingerboard very much, these strings are a good purchase and will last a good while.

Pros: I have just put the Helicore set on my viola. All three lower strings (C, G and D) sound fine and have plenty of resonance.
Cons: The A-string, however, was a big disappointment. The sound when I drew the bow seemed 'to break up' - so much so that I wondered if the string was perhaps faulty. I have now replaced it with a completely different string (Pirastro Permanent Medium) and that sounds fine. So I don't think it's my viola or bow that's at fault.

Pros: The three lower strings are fine, and in my experience long lasting.
Cons: The top string (viola A) has always been a problem when I've used Helicore. It is louder compared with the others, and even 'screams'. Often, too, the sound 'breaks' when the bow is drawn. I think this is a problem with Helicore A-strings generally, rather than with the set I purchased, because I have noticed it before. And when I try the A string on each of my two violas, there's the same problem. At the moment I'm using an old Permanent string as the top string (A), and the result is much better. The snag is that Pemanent strings are expensive, and despite their name, not very long lasting.
