Pros: A good mute designed to be owner fitted to the individual bridge. This is easy with 80 grit paper and a steel rule plus a spot of patience.
Cons: Perhaps rather tall, somewhat obscuring sight lines up the fingerboard, but is is easy to fit and remove.

Pros: I
Cons: I didn't realise this was a practise mute so bought the wrong one.
Other: What I needed was one that looked like a pound coin so I had to go to a music shop to buy one

Pros: It looks nice and hopefully will work as well as the one I lost. I bought one from Stringzone a couple of years ago. It was a different maker obviously, a nicer wood, perfectly made, and it produced a warm subdued tone. It is a shame Stringzone didn't continue with the former type.
Cons: This mute does not fit on my violin bridge. I don't think it would fit on any violin bridge for that matter. It will need to be filed in order to widen the gap. I have already broken a nail file trying to do that, without success.

Pros: It adds a much grainier darker quality to the sound than rubber mutes, totally transforms the natural sound of the instrument.
Cons: It didn't fit on my bridge! I had to sand down the inside of the mute. (My bridge is not particularly thick). Also impractical for pieces which involve lots of, or quick, mute on-off changes, but that's why I have a rubber mute too.
