* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
The original and best known synthetic cored string. Regarded as the reference standard for this type of string. Well adapted to give excellent playing properties on any instrument.
Dominant strings give a warm and clear sound which closely approximates to a traditional covered gut string. Tonally stable and easy to play on they suitable for all players beginner to professional.
Medium tension strings. For other tensions please click the link above.
NB The set 135 with aluminium wound E is the traditional and well known version of these strings. The aluminium winding being a more suitable choice for learners as it is easier to produce a clear sound without whistles or overtones. The set 135B features a plain Chrome plated steel E which will appeal to advanced players for its clarity and projection.
Aluminium E Set with ball end only. For loop end E set please order four individual strings.
Steel E set (135B) E has a loop end with removable ball to take out if required.
To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.
4/4 - LOB 356mm (14")
3/4 - LOB 330mm (13")
1/2 - LOB 305mm (12")
1/4 - LOB 280mm (11")

Pros: Was recommended to use by music teacher when first started at age 45! have ever since. Nice round sound and hard wearing.Play Sottish traditional music, many reels and jigs etc.
Cons: No adverse comments.

Pros: As ever, Dominant Violin Strings are excellent quality, quick to settle and suit my instrument better than any other string in the same price range.
Cons: The A string in particular is prone to unwind before any other and always in the same place (just above the d ((ie. 3rd finger d string)) ).
Other: Consistent quality strings that settle quickly, ideal for playing inside and outside.

Pros: play folk stuff mostly...the strings suit that purpose well and provide lively yet mellow sounds...depending on how much rosin is used to some extent........they stay in tune once they have settle in...great fan of them.
Cons: the E sting ...I use the aluminium type......can sound a bit harsh and out of balance with the other strings unless one is extra careful but with care it is okay......but it is not particularly forgiving if you get it slightly wrong.........probably more to do with my playing though.
Other: I have tried other types of string but always come back to these.

Pros: The Dominant strings are usually ok.
Cons: The G and D string seem to change pitch, when one accellerate the speed of the bow. This used to be a problem on old strings, never on new ones. (A professor, teaching violin, made this statement).
Other: The cost of freight was scandalously high. It takes too much effort for too little, to return strings unsatisfactory. But we've learned our lesson. Never again !
