A light oil designed to prolong the life of strings. Not a cleaner. Apply a little bit of string oil to the strings at the fingerboard area. (Not the bowing area.)

Cons: Very expensive for what it is

Other: Vodka or any other solvent would probably do the job just as well (if in doubt test on a spare or used string)

Pros: No doubt will do its job

Cons: I asked for the wrong thing

Other: I am not the violinist but he is happy with the items which I gave to him. Only problem is that I bought string cleaner and I should have ordered cleaner for the body of the violin. My mistake.
