Pirastro Eudoxa is probably the world's best known violin string and has been a staple of many players over the last 60 years. It is a traditional covered gut string. Nowadays these strings appeal mainly to players who value the unique tonal properties and playing feel of a traditional gut cored string and are prepared to accept the need for more regular tuning and their sensitivity to changes in climatic conditions.
We do not recommend the use of fine tuners with these strings as they require more regular tuning than synthetic or metal cored strings. Aluminium on natural gut. The sheep gut core of Eudoxa strings is manufactured, wound and polished in the traditional way, by hand. Well balanced warm tone with a great diversity of sound. Low string tension and a comfortable left hand feeling ideal for orchestra, chamber music and studio takes.
SHIPPED COILED IN STRING PACKETS - for straight strings see our listings for Straight Pirastro Strings
Please note. These strings do NOT have ball ends and are not designed for use with fine tuners on the tailpiece. These can damage the knot of the string and lead to breaking. Tuning should be confined to the pegs only. Please ensure this product meets your requirements prior to purchase.

Pros: Lovely rich sound ( pj the right instrument. I have a southern German violin about 1850. On my French violin I use obligato with a much brighter sound which would not be nice on the mellow instrument) Do need tuning a lot but WORTH the effort
Cons: Not much! I just enjoy this sound
Other: Strings need to match the instrument

Pros: For older instruments the Pirastro Eudoxa brings out a warmth and depth that only a fine gut core string can. My old German black forest instrument sounds wonderful with these strings on and the sound projection is 100 percent improved. This is my second set on this instrument and I can vouch for the fact that the strings last a good while if taken care of. Clean then between playing with a lint free cloth so that Rosin does not built up and cake as these are softer than the pure steel core and will soak up excess rosin if allowed.
Cons: Gut string have tuning issues and Eudoxa are no different in this respect. Buy this string expecting something wonderful but remember you will have a battle with tuning for as long as you are playing on gut.

Pros: Tone is good, though not the best match for my violin.
Cons: The don't stay in tune even when played-in
Other: For me, on my violin, Thomastik Infeld Reds have proven to be a better option - excellent tone and very stable tuning.
