* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
The original and best known synthetic cored string. Regarded as the reference standard for this type of string. Well adapted to give excellent playing properties on any instrument.
Dominant strings give a warm and clear sound which closely approximates to a traditional covered gut string. Tonally stable and easy to play on they suitable for all players beginner to professional.
Medium tension strings. For other tensions please click the link above.
NB The set 135 with aluminium wound E is the traditional and well known version of these strings. The aluminium winding being a more suitable choice for learners as it is easier to produce a clear sound without whistles or overtones. The set 135B features a plain Chrome plated steel E which will appeal to advanced players for its clarity and projection.
Aluminium E Set with ball end only. For loop end E set please order four individual strings.
Steel E set (135B) E has a loop end with removable ball to take out if required.
To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.

Good strings
Pros: They've always had a good reputation and I've always found them to be decent strings.
Cons: I can't particularly think of any cons. You may consider them to be a little expensive but not compared to some strings available and if you buy cheaper ones you're likely to be compromising quality.

1/2 violin using Dominant strings
Pros: Suffice it to say, the extra expense of these strings over cheap ones was worth it. They sound so much better and our 7 year old enjoys the sound they produce on his 1/2 violin. We bought them to aid his performance in readiness of his audition at the Royal Welsh College of Music. Go Josh :-) The String Zone were very helpful, the price was good, and they arrived on time as promised. We will use them again.
Cons: None

Good quality strings but disappointed with sound
Pros: Good quality strings which keep in tune well
Cons: Sounded very harsh at first but they've mellowed a bit after playing for a week (hour every day)
Other: Disappointed. Upgraded from cheap strings as Dominants seem universally recommended for beginners but although they sound more 'open' the tone is harsher & not as warm as old strings. Not sure they suit my old German fiddle.
