* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
The original and best known synthetic cored string. Regarded as the reference standard for this type of string. Well adapted to give excellent playing properties on any instrument.
Dominant strings give a warm and clear sound which closely approximates to a traditional covered gut string. Tonally stable and easy to play on they suitable for all players beginner to professional.
Available in three tensions in full size and medium tension in fractional sizes. Aluminium wound on a multi-strand synthetic core.
To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.
4/4 - LOB 356mm (14")
3/4 - LOB 330mm (13")
1/2 - LOB 305mm (12")
1/4 - LOB 280mm (11")
1/8 - LOB 254mm (10")

Pros: I have used Dominant Strings for years, mainly for Orchestral playing, but also for Quartets and solos. I have always found them to give a good tone, plus they are long-lasting and stay at proper tuning after only a short time. I have never experienced what some reviewers describe as early unwinding of Dominant Strings. Indeed, I have sometimes changed strings just to ensure a fresh, bright sound in case the strings have become physically flatened by long use.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Dominant is the string for you if you want some of the resistance of a wound gut string (eg Eudoxa) but without it going out of tune so much. Light tension Dominant is good on a bright sounding modern violin.
Cons: Dominant lasts a long time, but can sound a bit dull after two months or so.

Pros: the sound quality for dominant string D are very clear. Dominant d string is good value as it is not the very cheapest of strings and not as dear as pirastro violin strings
Cons: can't think of any negative issues for dominant strings
