The Bowmaster is a training device to help beginners adopt the correct bow grip. Simple to install the Bowmaster slides onto the stick. The specially moulded shape assists the placing of the fingers.

Pros: Huge help to those finding difficulty with bow hold at outset. Have also used with non-beginners to great effect.
Cons: Dimple for little finger on top of bow works well for violins and violas, but more of a groove shape would be better to cater for cello bow hold.

Pros: Cheaper than its competetitor!
Cons: Very difficult to get on, I used a bit of talcum powder to ease it on with.
Other: Still not sure about this. I bought it for my daughter who has a stiff bow hold and sticky out little finger that bends the wrong way. She really likes it and her bowing has improved. Would like to experiment with other students, particularly those with double jointed little fingers. Must add, it didn't suit me at all - but there again, I already have a brilliant bow hold!

Pros: An excellent aid to teaching a correct bow hold. It is easily mounted and taken off when needed. The light weight does not overly affect the balance of the bow.
Cons: For large hands I have to use the cello version and would, ideally, prefer the index finger position to be further forward.
Other: none

Pros: I like the idea. In my case it was to help with a problem I have with my arthritic thumb, and I think it would help to relax my bow hold if I could only get it to fit!
Cons: Difficulty fitting it on my bow

Pros: Compared with other training devices, this is a lot cheaper, so at least you can have a punt without much of an outlay.
Cons: It didn't work for me - I found it insufficiently comfortable, despite giving it a week's trial. Difficult to actually get on to the bow - but a smear of vaseline helped enormously.
Other: I actually use a handwriting 'gripper' (50p each!). It's worked for me but, obviously, what helps is an individual matter. It may be worth trying several types of thing & seeing what does the trick for you.

Pros: Great sounding Obligato strings lovely warm tones, great for making a bright instrument slightly warmer.
Cons: E and a snapped within a month, however I have bought another set as I see the sound quality worth the durability
