should've bought this first!

Pros: Easy to use - no fiddling about with length of straps or position on floor, doesn't depend on chair legs, easy to adjust if you need to change your playing position slightly (just pick it up and put it somewhere else), portable, and so far has worked on every floor.

Cons: Nothing

An Essential Bit of Cello Kit

Pros: The Black Hole was much lighter than I was expecting (you wouldn't notice it stowed in the cello case) and works very well in most conditions of use.

Cons: If you play the cello at a rather shallow angle you may experience small sudden slips on smooth surfaces.

Other: The alternative is some kind of belt or line attached to the chair legs, though this can be fiddly.
